Welcome to La Maison de Maître located in Chagnon, Aumagne in the sunny Charente Maritime.

We are Nick and Clare Butcher and in 2020 we took the plunge and moved from the UK to France.

After scouring property adverts, we eventually stumbled upon 3 Rue Principale and embarked on an extensive renovation project to breathe life and love back into the building.

Our vision was to create a place where we ourselves would love to holiday!

Not just a stop over - but a destination!

 

During the renovations, we started our Youtube channel – One Turret Short of a Chateau! The Expat Butchers to keep friends and family updated with our progress. Since then we have gained followers from all over the world who watch our antics weekly.

After four years of renovations we finally opened the doors to welcome guests on 1st July 2025.

​

We have created a selection of unique suites, landscaped walled gardens with a stunning heated swimming pool, and boast a certified in-house chef for our table d'hôtes evening meal offering.
