Why not just go and have a quick look??

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

It was a cold and frosty morning in Wiltshire on the 20th February 2021 when I woke up and took this picture out of the bedroom window of our Farmhouse. It was echoey as there was no furniture left and it felt a bit lifeless. I decided to retreat back to the warm comfort of my blow up double mattress and started scrolling through Facebook on my phone...

Wow that looks nice! hmmm - I screen-shot the advert and forwarded it to Nick and gave him a quick Facetime call. Why not just go and have a quick look? I suggested.

We had previously decided not to look at any property until our house sale had completed, as we had a couple of false starts with selling it. We had seen houses in France we liked but they had all sold quite quickly and we didn't want to get our hopes up again.

I think though that this time curiosity got the better of Nick. The same day he went for a drive to try and find the house - and he did eventually find it. By the end of the day I had a steady stream of photos being sent to me of all different views of the outside. We both really liked the look of the house and saw it had a lot of potential. We decided Nick should try and book a viewing ASAP and maybe try and show me round via Facetime whilst I was still in the UK. If he liked it and thought I would too, then to go ahead and put an offer in - I trusted his judgement.

Nick went and viewed the house with my parents on the 24th of February. He did try hard to Facetime me round the house but lo and behold there was very little phone signal inside, so again a stream of photos were sent. At 2pm I sent a message - have you put in an offer? any news?

He had put the offer in and was waiting to hear more....

We finally heard on the 26th of February that our offer had been accepted! yay! a big thanks to our estate agent Christine.

Now it was time to start another long wait until we got the keys.

In the meantime our Wiltshire Farmhouse finally sold.

I dismantled my Aga with the help of some friends and one of them kindly stored it in his lockup until I could return at a later date with a bigger vehicle to collect it.

I had my Covid test, packed my truck up with the last bits from our house, filled out the minefield of paperwork required to travel back to France and finally set off back on the 5th of March.

Only a 15 hour trip and I was back in the Charente Maritime.
