My first (and hopefully last) Earthquake experience

It is not every day the earth moves – that is for sure.

But on Friday 16th June it sure did!

After enjoying an evening swim, I was sitting on the bench next to the pool in a towel drying off with Flora next to me on the ground.

Suddenly an almighty rumble came from behind me it sounded like when a huge lorry goes past and rumbles the ground but a lot louder.

The corrugated metal of the hangar next to me started to rattle and it seemed like the walls and buildings that surround the garden wobbled in slow motion.

Underneath my feet the ground shuffled – it felt like being sat on a tea tray with someone shuffling it backwards and forwards.

And the swimming pool water that was flat as a millpond started to slosh about from side to side….

Flora was oblivious to everything and carried on with her nap.

It took a while for my brain to engage (I am sure Nick could make a good joke out of that) then it came to me…ah that must have been an earthquake!

I had not managed to catch any of it on film but did do a short video a few moments after.

Originally it was reported as a 5.5 quake but was later downgraded to a 4.9. Some after shocks followed the following morning but were not as noticeable (I slept through most of them!)

We went round and did a bit of a check of everything and we do not think we have had any damage to the building. Although time may tell when the rain gets even heavier.

Pleased to say we are all safe and sound but are thoughts do go out to any one who was at the epicentre whose home sustained damage hopefully things are fixed as quickly as possibly and you are back home soon.
